< Marschall ‘09 turned in a pair of record-setting performances as the Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team rallied for a 740-726 victory over Saint John’s University at the Carleton Mini Invite.
Marschall was part of the winning 200 medley and 800 freestyle relay teams, but his best performances came in individual events later in the meet.
He added his name to the Carleton record book yet again, this time in the 100 butterfly as his time of 51.49 eclipsed the team mark set by Geoff Issacman back in 1992.
Marschall wasn’t done, though. In his last event of the day, he shattered his own pool record in the 400 IM with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:03.99. His performance was more than seven seconds faster than his previous Thorpe Pool standard established a year ago at this event
Jared Plotz ’09 teamed with Marschall on the winning relays, then took top honors in the 100 freestyle relay with a time of 50.07.
Joining with veterans Marschall and Plotz on the 800 yard relay were first-years Brian Kilgour and Andrew Mering. Mering got the wall first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.95, and Kilgour prevailed in the 200 backstroke (2:03.52).
John Knapp ‘09 added to the Knights’ point total with first-place finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions.
The Knights travel to St. Cloud, Minn. for their next meet today before returning home for a dual-meet tomorrow with Gustavus Adolphus College. Competition begins at 11 am.
