<ast Saturday, Men’s Club Volleyball players past and present gathered in Cowling Gymnasium for the third annual alumni reunion game. The event drew 12 alumni with some coming from as far as Oregon, California and West Virginia. Alums with class years ranging from the old—1969—to the new—2010—shared the court to battle their alma mater’s current team in a best-of-five match. It was a hard-fought contest, but in the end the alums came out on top after a game-winning hit by Joe Swiggum, class of 2010, set up by Carl Henry, class of 1969.
After the match, the group headed to the Weitz Center to share stories over a post-game banquet. Henry, the club’s founder, provided pictures and history from the ‘70s and ‘80s. He also shared a particularly fascinating story involving the 6’1” Henry blocking 7’1” NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain in an exhibition match. Everyone is looking forward to the rematch at next year’s reunion.
