<st of the women’s track team took last week off, but a few brave souls ventured across the river to partake in a little competition at St. Olaf College. Those athletes competed extremely well and the ones that stayed home are proud of their performances.
Kyla Walter ’11 is reacquainting herself with the multis this year and she worked on some of those events at St. Olaf. She improved her best in the long jump and competed in the 55-meter hurdles. She lowered in her time in that event and qualified for the finals. In the finals she three-stepped every hurdle and lowered her time again, putting her at eighth in the conference in the event. At the end of the hurdles she debated whether or not to compete in the 400-meter dash. A couple of people told her she should and she did.
Before that Rachel Kittaka ’12 took to the track for the first time in almost two years.
She was quite excited about racing again and took the mile out quickly, running a tough race.
Then Haley Johnson ’13 took over. She commanded the 600 meters, running to a 1:42, a 3.5 second victory. Johnson now owns the third fastest time in the conference in the 600 while maintaining the top time in the 800 meters.
These three will be joined by their teammates tonight in a dual meet against Saint Benedict at the Rec Center at 5:00 p.m. Not only will there be great performances to kick off your Midterm Break, but the meet has historically had great announcing to let you know what’s going on. Thanks in advance to the Fellahs from the men’s team for running the meet.
