Athletes across different teams practiced this week as Carleton’s athletic programs entered Phase 2 of COVID-19 protocol, under which practice pods can compete against one another and in-person team meetings can be held outside of practice. Unfortunately, Tuesday’s early snowstorm, coupled with a bleak weather forecast for the next two weeks, threaten to prevent sports such as football, soccer and baseball from practicing outdoors in the near future.

Outside of varsity sports, students also enjoyed a chance to use the Rec Center, which began reopening its facilities earlier this month with an array of COVID-19 precautions in place. The climbing wall, bouldering cave, tennis courts and weight room are now open to students who reserve slots beforehand. Squash and racquetball courts, basketball hoops and the dance studio are available for individual use only, according to email communication from Mikki Showers, manager of the Rec Center.
