Men’s tennis remains undefeated

<anked team in the central region, continued their undefeated start as they beat 10th ranked Carthage 5-4 last Sunday to improve to 7-0. The Knights lost two of the three doubles matches and the match came down to the fourth singles match third set tiebreaker between Peter Varnum ’08 and Carthage’s J.T. Delk. Varnum won the tiebreaker, clinching the match for the Knights. He had been down 0-3 in the third set before staging his comeback a get the victory. Carleton also got an impressive win at 6th singles with a 6-0 ,6-0 victory by Vince Heguy ’11.

The win over Carthage finished off a tough three-match weekend. On Friday, the Knights played 12th ranked Luther College. The Knights came away with a 6-3 victory taking the first four singles spots and the first two doubles spots as well. Colin Russell ’10, the 11th ranked player in the region, had wins at first singles and first doubles to help propel the Knights.

On Saturday the Knights played Bethel University and came away with a convincing 8-1 win. The Knights swept the three doubles matches, and four Knight players recorded wins in both singles and doubles play.

The Knights have two matches this week, the first next Sunday against the University of St. Thomas and the next on Friday against Wisconsin-La Crosse. The Knights will look to remain unbeaten as they continue regular play and prepare for their spring trip to South Carolina.
