Knights tennis sweep St. Kate’s

<n in both singles and doubles action as the Carleton College women’s tennis team notched a 9-0 triumph over St. Catherine University.

Both teams entered the afternoon with unblemished records, and the Knights (6-0, 3-0 MIAC) came out on top for the third consecutive year.

Seniors Mikayla Becich and Joyce Yu prevailed 8-4 at first doubles, while Grace Davis  and Caitlin Shea were victorious at the second spot by an 8-5 tally. Sophomores Alana Danieu  and Danielle Vasiliev picked up an 8-1 victory at third doubles.

After sweeping doubles, the Knights just needed to split the six singles contests with the Wildcats (4-1, 1-1 MIAC). Instead, Carleton swept those as well.

Becich, Yu, Shea, Danieu, and Davis won the second through fifth singles matches in straight sets, dropping only 15 total games combined. Vasiliev stayed unbeaten in 2016 after recording a 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 result at first singles.

Carleton has one match remaining before Spring Break. The Knights will face Bethel University at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 6.
