The Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team completed competition at the Minnesota Challenge on Saturday. This event serves a dual purpose for the Knights. It is the final taper meet for members of the squad who will not be part of the conference championships, while the rest of the roster uses the two-day meet as one final tune-up before the MIAC meet as well as the NCAA national meet.

In the first diving event of the meet, the 1 meter board, Amelia Roach (Fy./Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) finished in 21st place with a score 170.10. Roach also took 20th place in the 3-meter diving, finishing with a score of 171.15.

Maria Wetzel (So.Salem, Ore./ West Salem) led the Knights with a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:03.25. Wetzel also finished in ninth place in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a career-best time of 1:57.71.

Halie Langanki (Jr./Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) recorded an 11th-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a season-best time of 4:57.57. Langanki also placed 11th in the 200-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 2:23.62.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Alex Guy (Sr./Denver Colo./Denver School of the Arts) recorded a career-best time of 54.94. Guy’s performance earned her a 10th-place finish in the event.

Alison Coogan (Sr./River Forest, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) finished in 10th place in the 200-yard breast-stroke. Coogan touched at a time of 2:33.55, smashing her previous career best time in the event by nearly four seconds.

The next event for the Knights is the Northfield Diving Invite held at Thorpe Pool on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The following week Carleton heads back to the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center for the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships.
