Knights bring regular season to a close

The Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team competed in the second day of the Minnesota Challenge, racing in both the morning and afternoon sessions.

Alex Mathson (So./Verona, Wis./ Verona) took sixth place in the 400-yard IM, posting a season-best time of 4:16.64. Evan Harris (Sr./Lexington, S.C./Lexington) recorded an eighth-place finish in the same event. Harris shattered his previous season-best time by nearly seven seconds, finishing at a time of 4:18.46.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Mathson recorded an eighth-place finish with a career-best time of 1:58.93. He also took sixth place in the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 2:11.91.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Wilson Josephson (Jr./Mount Hermon, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) finished in 11th place at a season best time of 1:45.66.

Josephson later recorded a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.27. Eli Danson (Sr./Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) finished in ninth place in the same event, posting a season-best time of 2:01.58.

Jonathan Brodie (Jr./Fremont, Calif./Washington), Harris, Stephen Grinich (Jr./McMinnville, Ore./McMinnville), and Evan Lahr (So./Monticello, Minn./Monticello) combined on the 200-yard medley relay, joining on a time of 1:38.27, which was seventh overall.

For several Carleton swimmers this meet marked the end of their season however for a majority of the Knights their season will continue and hopefully finish at the NCAA meet later this Month. Qualification for the national finals has taken place all year with several men qualifying in a range of events.

Carleton will host the Northfield Diving Invite at Thorpe Pool on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The following week the Knights head back to the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center for the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships.
