<rleton College women’s soccer team absorbed its first conference loss of the campaign, falling by a 2-1 tally to Macalester College.
The result is further disappointing for the Knights (8-4-1, 5-1-1 MIAC) who had a chance to move into a tie atop the standings after frontrunner Concordia College
lost earlier in the day.
The Scots (6-6-1, 2-4-1 MIAC) grabbed the lead in the eighth minute when Hannah Walker got free behind the defense and knocked
home a right-footed shot off the outstretched hand of Carleton goalkeeper Mikayla Coulombe.
The Knights got the equalizer in the 41st minute. A corner kick
by Connor Kasch (So./Marengo, Ill./Illinois Math & Science Academy) was headed toward the back post by Madelaine Horn (Jr./Hamilton, Ont./Westdale Secondary). The shot hit off the crossbar and dropped to the feet of Ava Lewis (So./Seattle, Wash./Garfield), who volleyed it home for her team-best seventh goal of the season.
It appeared the Knights would carry the momentum into intermission,
but a free kick in the 45th minute resulted in a scramble inside the Carleton six-yard box. Ellen Brady finally deposited the ball into the net for the eventual game-winner.
Carleton will regroup before hosting Hamline University for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 18. It will be Senior Day at Bell Field as the Knights recognize the quartet of players participating in their final regular-season home match.
