Volleyball Drops Three-setter to Gustavus

<ren Halls ’15 (Edina, Minn.) claimed a match-best 11 kills and added a service ace but the Carleton College volleyball team fell in three-sets (25-23, 25-13, 25-23) to Gustavus Adolphus College Wednesday evening. The match marked the Knights (10-4 overall, 0-2 MIAC) first appearance at West Gym during conference play this season.

The Knights led through much of the first set and held a late 23-21, but were not able to close out the set as the Gusties (7-8, 2-0 MIAC) reeled off four consecutive points to steal the set and take an early 1-0 lead in the match. Gustavus used the momentum from the first set to earn a convincing 25-13 win in set two before the Knights battled back in the third set. Trailing 19-15 late in the third set, Carleton fought back to tie the set at 22-22, but could not get any closer as Gustavus won three out of the final four points to earn a 25-23 win and match victory.

Halls led the Knights offensive attack, while Claire Willeck (Sr./Eden Prairie, Minn.) added eight kills and one block. Alicia Flatt ’15 (Walnut Creek) led all participants with a match-high 31 assists, while Camille Benson ’16 (Savage, Minn.) added 22 digs.
