<ing the first day of competition at the MIAC Outdoor Championships, the Carleton College men’s track and field team saw one All-MIAC performance on Friday and a pair of all-conference honorable mention results.
Hart Hornor ‘16 earned All-MIAC recognition for the third time in his career as he placed third overall in the 10,000-meter run at 32:14.22.
In the field events, Alex Polk ‘15 and Colby Seyferth ‘15 both claimed All-MIAC Honorable Mention as they finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the javelin throw.
Seyferth recorded a personal-best throw of 50.61 meters (166 feet) during the prelims, and Polk bettered that with a heave of 51.52 meters (169 feet) during the event finals.
Last week Seyferth earned All-MIAC distinction for his second-place showing in the decathlon.
Noah Laack-Veeder ‘15 qualified for the finals in the 800-meter run with a prelim time of 1:57.43.
Walter Edstrom ‘17 and Thor Laack-Veeder ‘15 both secured spots in Saturday’s finals for the 1500-meter run. Edstrom crossed the line at 4:09.50 followed by Thor Laack-Veeder 0.6 second later.
Competition on day two began with the field events. Peter Dehkes ‘17 finished fifth in the high jump after clearing 1.90 meters (6 feet, 2.75 inches)
Adan Nunez-Frausto ‘14 placed second in the hammer throw and earned All-MIAC status after crushing his personal best with a distance of 52.38 meters. That effort came on his first attempt of the final round and ranks him second all-time at Carleton.
Upon starting the track events, Marcus Huderle ‘14 earned All-MIAC distinction in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the fourth consecutive year. He was second overall this time, finishing at a season-best mark of 9:12.47.
Carleton secured All-MIAC Honorable Mention in the 4×100-meter relay. Chris Madden ‘17, Evan Howard ‘17, Evan McNeil ‘15, and Colby Seyferth combined on a season-best time of 42.86.
Walter Edstrom and Thor Laack-Veeder finished seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 1500-meter run. Both Knights set new personal bests with their times of 4:02.31 and 4:03.89.
Noah Laack-Veeder qualified for the finals in the 800-meter run, placing ninth at 1:56.29 taking more than a second off his preliminary-round performance.
Jonah Barry ‘16 earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention with his fourth-place result in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:59.27. Hart Hornor just missed scoring a point for the Knights, finishing ninth in the 30-racer field at 15:21.67.
The championships concluded with the 4×400-meter relay. The Knights won their heat and placed ninth overall at a season-best mark of 3:21.46.
The team finished seventh at the MIAC Outdoor Championships contested across town at St. Olaf College after day two came to a close.
The Knights finished with 57 points. St. Thomas held on for its third consecutive conference title and 27th over the last 32 years, amassing 172.5 points this time. St. Olaf was next at 159, followed by Hamline (110), and Saint John’s (108.). Gustavus (66.5), Bethel (62), Carleton, and Concordia (52) were tightly bunched in the middle of the scoring.
