Women’s Swimming and Diving Loses Dual Meet

<lign: justify"> The Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team hosted the University of St. Thomas in a dual meet on Friday night. After a special pre-racing presentation of the Margate Memorial Trophy to the Tommies, the Knights won six events but came out on the short end of a 197-103 score.

Milana Socha ‘14 completed the freestyle triple as she was first to the wall in the 50-, 100-, and 200-yard freestyle. Socha posted times of 24.92, 54.58, and 2:00.43, respectively.

Maria Wetzel ‘17 also won three events. She took top honors in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.97, nearly a three-second margin of victory. She extended that advantage to eight-and-a-half seconds in winning the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:09.85. Wetzel added a victory in the 200-yard IM, posting a time of 2:15.52.

Lydia Henderson ‘15 finished second on the 3-meter board and third in the 1-meter diving competition with 165.05 and 165.20 points, respectively.

Carleton had four other runner-up results. Masha Toulokhonova ‘17 recorded a second-place result in the 1000-yard freestyle, reaching the wall at 11:25.38. Samantha Sharpe ‘14 notched a time of 2:22.68 in the 200-yard butterfly, and Halie Langanki ‘16 finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:37.58. The Knights 200-yard freestyle relay capped the evening with a time of 1:44.67.
