Women’s Soccer Falls to Hamline

<te score proved to be the difference as the women’s soccer team absorbed a 1-0 loss at Hamline University. The setback dropped the Knights into a tie for sixth in the conference standings.

The Pipers (7-6-2, 4-4 MIAC) tallied a 9-1 margin in shot attempts and finally broke the scoreless deadlock with a Rachel Cervantez goal in the 85th minute. Carleton keeper Mikayla Coulombe ‘16 tallied six saves, but the Knights’ offense’s lone shot attempt did not get the job done.

Carleton (6-8-1, 4-4 MIAC) and Hamline are two of three teams now tied for sixth in the conference standings with 12 points, and both squads will need a lot of help to advance to the postseason. There are already four teams with 18 standings points, followed by Augsburg with 13 points. Carleton will likely have to win all three of its remaining matches, each of which comes against squads either tied with the Knights or ahead of them in the standings.

Next up is a visit from first-place Concordia College next Saturday, Oct. 26. The Knights handed the Cobbers their lone regular-season loss in 2012 and will look to overthrow the defending champions once again.
