Wirta Named to All-MIAC Team, Dimick on Sportsmanship Team

<rleton senior Alex Wirta was the lone Knight named to the All-MIAC team for the 2012 year. The All-MIAC nod is the second in his career, as he was also selected after his freshmen season. During conference play, he posted a .361 batting average with a team high 14 RBIs. He finishes his career with a .370 batting average in conference games. Paul Dimick ‘12 was the Knights’ recipient on the All-MIAC Sportmanship team.

For the third year in a row, Wirta led the team in batting average with a .357 average over all games. In 2012, he posted career highs in doubles (14) and RBIs (28). Always a tough out, Wirta did not strike out over his final 13 games, a span of 52 plate appearances. Behind the plate, Wirta threw out seven of 12 would-be base stealers. His seven runners thrown out was tied for the lead in MIAC contests.

Wirta ends his career among the school leaders in a bevy of different offensive categories. He is second all-time in hits (158), second in on-base percentage (.457), fourth in batting average (.364), second in doubles (39), and fourth in RBIs (81). He graduates as the career leader in hit by pitches (44).

Veteran pitcher Dimick was chosen as the team’s representative for the sixth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team.
Coaches and teammates recognized the pitcher as the individual who best exemplifies the spirit of positive sportsmanship both on the field and in other facets of life.  Dimick led the team in wins (4) and innings pitched (63.0) this year while posting a solid 4.43 ERA.
