Senate meets weekly on Monday nights at 7pm in Sayles-Hill 251. All members of the community are welcome to attend.
– Senate passed a Resolution in support of the Federal Research Public Access Act of 2009. The Act would require every federal agency with an annual extramural research budget exceeding $100 million to make the final manuscripts of journal articles written by researchers publicly available online. According to Carleton, open access to taxpayer-funded research will, in addition to increasing student and faculty access to academic research, raise the College’s visibility by increasing access to research conducted at Carleton College.
– In regards to the latest Resolution passed by Senate, Open Access Week is an opportunity for Carleton students to get involved with raising awareness about this proposed Act. The yearly event is used to spread global interest in the movement for public access to scholarly research results.
In 2008, 120 campuses in 27 countries celebrated Open Access Day. (http://openaccessweek.org)
