Carleton soccer continues to dominate MIAC

<men’s soccer team has had a great week. Over parents weekend they defeated Hamline, with a score of 4-1. After being down 1-0 half, the Knights tied up the score in the in the 51st minute of the second with a goal from Mia Zutz ’10. Following that, in the 73rd minute, Zutz crossed the ball and found Melley Turner ’09 who one-touch volleyed the ball into the back of the net, putting Carleton in the lead. Later in the game Nicole Tomita ’12 and Sophie Wood ’09 each put in a goal, bringing the final score to 4-1. The Knights’ performance was exciting for all of the parents and friends to watch.

On, Wednesday night, the Knights travelled to the cities to play at Augsburg, a team they were tied with for second in the MIAC rankings. The Knights battled for 90 minutes and came out on top with a 1-0 victory. Zutz had another goal, her third of the season, in the 79th minute of the game when Linnea Carleson ’12 passed a perfect ball into the box for Zutz to run onto. The Carleton defense fought hard to keep the Augies out of their net and force a shutout. Goalie Kate Trenerry ’10 had six amazing saves, adding to her sixth shutout of the season.

This victoroy over the Augies clinched the second place slot for Carleton. They go on to play St. Catherine’s this weekend, University of Wisconsin-River Falls next Tuesday, and cross-town rivals St. Olaf next weekend. Come cheer on the Knights on Saturday at 1 pm as they take on St. Catherines.
