<rleton College men’s soccer team won both its games last week against, topping Bethany Lutheran College and Bethel University in impressive fashion by a combined score of 9-1. Senior Neil Bartholomay (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) had a huge impact on both ends of the field, as the defender helped limit the Knights’ opponents to just one goal, while scoring three of his own from the back line. For his all-around contributions to Carleton’s success, Bartholomay was named the MIAC Men’s Soccer Athlete-of-the-Week.
Bartholomay proved to be an extremely efficient scorer in his team’s two victories last week. The senior needed just four shots to score his three goals, with two coming in a 5-0 win over Bethany Lutheran and another serving as the game-winner in a 4-1 MIAC victory over Bethel. Bartholomay also helped limit the Bethany Lutheran Vikings and their national top-10 scoring offense to zero goals and just four shots with his defensive play. The Carleton star now has four goals this season – equaling his career—and he ranks second among MIAC defenders and fifth among all players in goals scored in 2013. His two game-winning goals are also the second-most in the MIAC.
This is Bartholomay’s second career conference weekly honor, having also picked up the award in October 2012.
