<rleton College women’s soccer team outplayed its hosts during the second half and the overtime periods, the Knights saw their hope of participating in the upcoming MIAC Playoffs evaporate as the squad played to a scoreless draw with University of St. Thomas.
Today was the sixth time this season that the Knights played an overtime contest, three of them ending in scoreless draws. This one hurt a little more, however, as it meant the schedule officially ends come Saturday. The result also bounced the Tommies (6-9-2, 4-4-2 MIAC) from the postseason hunt.
The home team held an 8-2 advantage in shots during the first half before Carleton (7-5-4, 3-4-3 MIAC) built momentum after intermission.
“We put out a terrific effort today,” said Carleton head coach Jocelyn Keller. “We played as a team, put together passes, and created several scoring opportunities. Unfortunately we could not capitalize.”
The Knights out-shot St. Thomas 9-3 over the second 45-minute period, then took six of the nine attempts in the overtime periods as Carleton spent most of the time after halftime on the St. Thomas’ side of the field.
Carleton goalkeeper Mikayla Coulombe ‘16 registered five saves in posting her ninth shutout of the season. At the other end of the pitch, Tommies’ goalkeeper Callan Faulkner tallied 11 saves.
The Knights conclude the 2012 campaign with a road contest at rival St. Olaf College on Saturday, Oct. 27. Play is scheduled to begin at 1 PM.
