Martin ends season at UWL Qualifier

<sday, May 19, Ty Martin ‘11 competed in the 110-meter hurdles at the UW-La Crosse National Qualifier Meet. On a windy day, Martin finished fourth in the event but was unable to better his personal best time of 15.00 seconds from earlier this season. The Minot, N.D. native will graduate as a three-time conference champion after winning the 55-meter hurdles indoors and both the 110- and 400-meter hurdles outdoors this season. He also has multiple school records to his name.

The Knights also graduate several other athletes including Dylan Bothun, a hurdler, javelin thrower, and accomplished DJ from Rosemount, Minn.; John “JD-ah” Davis, a distance runner and All-Conference Steepler from Eden Prairie, Minn.; Michael “Michael” Knudson, a distance runner and Fulbright Scholar, greatly feared by Oles, from Decorah, Iowa; “Sneaky” Joe Marren, a distance runner from Chicago; Aaron Maurer, a thrower from Swarthmore, Pa.; Ben “Master Party” Parks, a distance runner from Burlington, Conn.; “The” Jameson Siegert, a high jumper from Madison, Minn.; and Colin Sinclair, a distance runner from Madison, Wis.

Finally, this Tuesday, six brave Fellahs attempted the Boonie Boonie Challenge. An annual postseason track/cross country tradition, the Boonie Boonie Challenge consists of running ten miles to Boonies Bar & Grill in Millersburg, eating a one-pound Boonie Boonie Burger, fries, and a shake, then running ten miles back to campus. Happily, all six participants (Kian Flynn ‘12, Aaron Hirsh ’13, Knudson, Parks, Sinclair, and Michael Tolan ‘14) completed the running portion of the challenge. Although Knudson and Hirsh had a few issues with their meals, they both projected determination and confidence, hurling streams of encouragement to their teammates. Carleton’s returning track athletes will now focus their attention on training for cross country, preparing for football, or getting huge.

Colin Sinclair is a member of the men’s track team.
