Eclipse has great weekend in S.C.

<vely ladies of Eclipse traveled down south last weekend for the Joint Summit frisbee tournament in Clemson, South Carolina. They came back with a 6-1 record (good for a third-place finish in the 10-team field), a spirit award, and high hopes for the rest of the young season. The trip was a milestone for Eclipse, as it was the first time the team had traveled by plane to a tournament, and represented another step toward their goal of becoming more competitive.

Eclipse started off strong, winning all five of their games in pool play on Saturday. They defeated Richmond (VA), Appalachian State, Georgetown, South Carolina, and North Carolina-B. However, the competition picked up in the championship bracket on Sunday. Eclipse found itself behind 12-9 to host Clemson in a game to 13. But while previous squads may have folded, this team roared back with the game on the line to pull out a dramatic 15-13 win. Perhaps worn out by the emotional victory, Eclipse fell far behind to Georgia Tech in its next game. Although they couldn’t summon the comeback magic again, they rallied in the second half to make the score respectable.

Eclipse took full advantage of their southern destination, soaking up the South Carolina sun on two warm days, when high temperatures approached 70 degrees, and enjoying some country cookin’ at Cracker Barrel. The team hopes to build on their experience as they prepare for their next tournaments – the Midwest Throwdown in St. Louis over 9th weekend, and College Southerns in Georgia over spring break.
