<ren Tei Yamashita '73 has been named a finalist for the 2010 National Book Award for the novel I Hotel, Yamashita’s fifth book. The book is about struggles for civil rights set in San Francisco’s Chinatown from 1968-1977.
Yamashita currently teaches at the University of Californain-Santa Cruz, but she will be serving as the Fred W. Schuster and Margaret C. Schuster Visiting Distinguished Lecturer in Literature this coming February here at Carleton.
Yamashita hopes to join two other Carleton alums, Kai Bird ’73 and T.J. Stiles ’86 who have already won National Book Award honors.
