The beginning of the year is a fresh start, presenting an opportunity for self-reflection and self-improvement. Myers RAs have elaborated on this idea, inspiring residents of the dorm to consider what improvements and resolutions they would like to make to their lives in the next year. On the bulletin board across from the laundry room on the first floor is an interactive display in which inhabitants can write down bucket list items they hope to complete this year in bright blue marker. When prompted, “this is your year to…” residents have created a variety of interesting responses.
Residents are resolving to give themselves grace, hoping to “have the best relationship with myself” and “treat myself better cuz I rock”.
Others want to step out of their comfort zone, “make a new friend” or “learn something new,” “talk to my Date Knight,” “try meth” or even “cook meth.” The Carletonian wishes these students the best of luck.
Residents are also resolving to learn communication skills: one resident wants to “tell people you hate them” Others want to “troll people”.
Still other inhabitants want to try new foods and beverages, resolving to “make a mean latte,” “eat more gingers” and “drink more”.
Lastly, residents seem to hope for a successful year, resolving to “dab on them haters,” “get money” and “get rich and awesome”.
A particularly interesting trend demonstrated on the bulletin board is a resolve to influence international diplomatic relations. Though it is difficult to understand what these inhabitants may mean in the long term, one resident hopes to “start cold wars” while another wants to “cancel Pakistan”.
Introspective thoughts are “in” in 2025, and Myers residents have seized upon this trend by reflecting on how they may improve their lives in the future. When asked about their thoughts on the bulletin, Myers inhabitants such as Elin Wellman ‘28 have called the bulletin a “beautiful representation of the rich tapestry of experiences and aspirations that make up Myers Hall.” Similarly, resident Clara Mast commented that “it’s so inspiring to walk into Myers and have the chance to reflect on my day using goals on the bulletin … I think it’s just awesome that Myers people want to try so many new things this year.” Residents’ unstoppable ambition is reflected through their enthusiastic goals that, though far-reaching, prove that anything is possible.
