RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Behind goals by Ashlyn Haigh and Kathryn Kresse, the Carleton College women’s soccer team picked up a 2-0 non-conference victory at University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
After a scoreless opening stanza, the Knights (13-1-4), who are ranked No. 23 in the latest NCAA Power Index (NPI), scored twice in the early portions to extend their unbeaten streak to nine games. Carleton out-shot the Falcons (7-7-2) by a 21-6 margin, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.
In the 51st minute, Claire Burbery sent a corner kick into the six-yard box, where Haigh had worked free of her mark and was able to head the ball into the top of the goal for her third score of the season and 12th of her career.
The Knights doubled their advantage in the 65th minute. Kiana Feldis slid a through ball into the 18-yard box. Kresse raced forward and immediately fired a shot inside the far post. It was Kresse’s team-leading ninth goal of the season, tying her for third among MIAC players this season. It was also the 24th tally of her career, moving Kresse into sole possession of fifth place on the Knights’ all-time scoring list (see chart below).
