<han Zweifel, head coach of the Carleton College men’s tennis, recorded his 200th career victory as his squad posted an 8-1 triumph over St. Olaf College. Zweifel, who is a professor of biology at the College, now possesses a 200-89 collegiate record. The Knights swept all six singles matches this afternoon, including a pair of three-set contests.
The lone St. Olaf team point came at first doubles where Will Mitchell and Knute Gundersen edged Winston Park ’10 and Dan Vollman ’12 8-5. The two Knights got revenge later in singles action, picking up straight set triumphs.
Peter Dunn ’12 and Paul Cooper ’13 notched a decisive 8-2 win at second doubles.
“Peter and Paul are starting to play some inspired doubles this spring,” Zweifel said. “This dynamic duo will attack the net with the same zeal as a TMZ reporter covering a celebrity sex scandal.”
Meanwhile, Colin Russell ’10 and Austin Jiang ’13 came out on top at third doubles, by an 8-5 margin.
Jiang and Jon Aranda ’12 also recorded straight set wins in singles, while Dunn and Alexander Chin ’13 needed third-set tiebreakers for their victories.
The Knights will continue their push towards the MIAC Playoffs when they host Concordia College on Saturday, April 24.
