<ast Saturday the Carleton Women suffered a frustrating 0-0 draw against Augsburg College. Dominating possession of the ball, the Knights had twenty-two shots to Augsburg’s three. Unfortunately however, the Carleton women are facing the harsh reality that a beautifully played game without a correspondingly positive result will not deliver them to the playoffs.
Offensively the Knights performed many impressive combinations and were led by the particularly strong presence of Nicole Tomita ’12. Defensively, Abby Wills ’12, a constant force in the Knight’s defense, won an incredible ninety percent of the contested balls in her area of the field.
“We are doing so much right, the goals will come,” Captain Mia Zutz ‘10 said.
With three games left in league play, the Knights need to prove that they can maintain their sophisticated playing style and score goals. The Knights’ pending position in the MIAC will be largely determined this Friday as they face Concordia at Bell Field. In the match up of these two teams last season, Concordia defeated the Knights in a close game yet the Knights advanced farther in the NCAA tournament. A win against Concordia will position the Knights confidently in their last two conference matches against St. Catherine and St. Olaf.
