<est of the student body studied frantically, midterms were the least of Kathryn Schmidt's worries this Thursday. The sophomore traveled to tennis hotbed Mobile, Alabama to compete in the highly selective ITA National College Championships this weekend. In a draw of only eight players from the whole nation, Schmidt lost her first round match 6-4, 6-0 to Julia Browne of Tufts University. "Everyone here is a good player," Schmidt said. "I'm just working on winning a match or two." After her first round loss, she enters the back draw and faces Lorne McManigle of Emory University, seeded first. Schmidt is still in contention for fifth place overall. Her match against McManigle is today at 10:30 am. Last year, in her first college season, Schmidt lead the Knights to a 10-1 record in the MIAC and qualified for the NCAA Championships in the spring.
