Volleyball has strong showing at Border Battle, loses to Blazers

< the Knights’ impressive 3-1 showing at the Border Battle this past weekend, the Carleton volleyball team hit a bit of a roadblock on Wednesday when they faced 16th ranked College of St. Benedict. The Blazers, who were riding a 12-match winning streak, were just too much for the Knights who lost all three sets, despite having leads in each set. The Knights were led by Kelly Lovett '11 who had 11 kills and Beth Jarrett '11 who contibuted 19 assists.

But the recent setback could not overshadow the impressive showing last weekend at the Border Battle, a tournament where teams from the MIAC competed against teams from the IIAC (Iowa Interscholastic Athletic Conference). The Knights began the weekend with two impressive wins friday night, a three set victory over Buena Vista University followed by a thrilling five set win over University of Dubuque.

Saturday started off with a small setback as the Knights lost their first match to Luther College, but the Knights fought back and ended the weekend by winning their closest match in five sets against Cornell College.

Overall the weekend proved that Minnesota is far superior than our neighbors to the south as the MIAC dominated IIAC for the weekend, winning 13 of 16 matches.

But the Knights have no time off as they are set to face another nationally ranked opponent as they host 19th ranked Concordia College-Moorhead tonight in West Gym. The match is set to start at 7:00 pm.
