<ther week has passed, and the men’s soccer team finds itself two wins closer to a third straight MIAC postseason. The recent wave of success has left the Knights in sole possession of first place in the MIAC standings. On Saturday, the Knights battled Hamline University on Bell Field deep into two overtimes before coming away with the win.
Tim Wills ’12 opened the scoring early in the second half with his fifth goal of the campaign. Ryan Cammarota shimmied his way through the Hamline defense before releasing a shot, which was rebounded for a goal by Wills
Hamline was able to tie the game later in the second half, however, forcing the Knights to play their third overtime game this season. Despite desperate defensive play from Hamline, the Knights were able to come away with the win 2-1 after Miles Silbert ’12 redirected a Wills header with only minutes left in the second overtime.
On Wednesday, the Knights hosted a Macalester team also battling for a position atop the MIAC standings. Carleton took an early lead after Wills tracked down a loose ball inside the Macalester box.
The Knights added to their lead only minutes later when Wills and Brett Adelman ’10 combined to set up Silbert for his second goal of the week.
The rest of the game proved to be a defensive struggle until the Knights added a third goal in the 87th minute of play. Wills notched his second assist of the game off of a quick restart by slotting a ball across the Macalester box to a slashing Adelman who put away his third goal of the season.
The Knights record now stands at 6-3 as they continue their season with two games this week. On Saturday the Knights will play host to St. John’s University at 1:00 p.m. on Bell Field before travelling Wednesday to face Bethel University at 7:00 p.m.
