Syzygy breaks seed to finish 9th at Nationals

<rleton’s women’s ultimate team, Syzygy entered the 2009 UPA College National Championship seeded 12th out of 20 teams, but finished tied for 9th place, ending their season on a strong note.
Syzygy came in seeded third in their pool, but broke seed defeating Washington University, Illinois, and North Carolina-Wilmington. They suffered there lone loss in pool play to eventual national champion UC-Santa Barbara. As the second seed in their pool, they had to play a third game of the day against the third seed from pool D, the University of Pennsylvania.

Unfortunately the third game of the day took its toll on Syzygy and they could not overcome the consistent play of Pennsylvania and lost 15-9. With the loss Syzygy was sent to the ninth place bracket where they faced Dartmouth. Led by senior Nicky Bloom’s dominant play in the air, Syzygy was able to pull out the 14-9 win. This set Syzygy up with a rematch of a pool play game against UNC-Wilmington. Syzygy came out ready and matched UNC-Wilmington the entire game coming out victorious 15-10 to secure their 9th place finish.
