<, Carleton’s top ultimate teams, CUT and Syzygy will participate in the 2009 UPA College Championships in Columbus, Ohio. Both teams come off of very strong regular seasons. CUT has gone undefeated so far in the championship series and has only lost 4 total games in the regular season. Syzygy only fell to one team in the series and has posted some strong wins during the regular season.
With the number 1 over all seed, CUT looks to bring back the national title for the first time since 2001.Of the top three teams in the nation, Carleton was the only one to advance to the national tournament, adding to the pressure of their number one seed. Florida, ranked first, did not make it out of their regional tournament and Oregon, ranked thrid, was disqualified for disciplinary reasons. The tournament is in a four day format, CUT will play Illinois, Tufts, Georgia, and UC-Santa Barbara in pool play on Friday and Saturday and then be reseeded for bracket play.CUT’s top challengers for the title are Colorado,Wisconsin and Virginia, agasint whom they will aim to hold seed and
Syzygy is seeded 12th and is in a pool with first overall seed, UC-Santa Barbara as well as UNC-Wilmington, Washington University in St. Louis and Illinois. Like CUT, Syzygy will play pool play the first two days, then be reseeded for bracket play.They hope to break seed in pool play and gain a higher seed in the post-pool play draw.Both teams begin play on Friday, May 22nd and hope to continue through to the finals on Monday.
