<ugh the season opener against Hibbing Community College was a disappointment to the Carleton hockey team, they didn’t let their 12-7 loss impact their second game. A day later, they won a decisive 7-4 victory over Bethel, a team they will face again later in the season.
Carleton will lead this season by a forward line of Nick Merkelson ‘09, Bobby Phillips ‘09 and Fred Kieley ‘09, who enter their third year of playing together. Defensively, the team will look to Eric Tiede ’10 and Ryan Hulstrand ’10, while Trey Callahan ’11, Elliot Vaughn ’11, Kyle Jacobs ’12 and Ryan Hafner ’12 lead the underclassmen who are expected make a big impact.
Because Carleton doesn’t play in an established league or conference, the captains create their own schedule against JV and club teams from around the region, including club teams from other MIAC schools.
The first home game is today against Bemidji State. They will be playing Saturday night as well. Both start at 10pm at the Northfield Ice Rink. Buses will leave from in front of Sayles.
Reasons to watch?
“You can expect hard-hitting entertainment at our home games,” Merkelson noted. “There’s nothing better than a Friday night hockey game.”
