Soccer teams win MIAC playoffs; football to play St. Johns for title

<mpionshp season has come to Carleton. Last weekend, Carleton fans braved the cold weather to watch both the men’s and women’s soccer teams win in the MIAC Championship game, with the women defeating Concordia 3-0, while the men needed penalty kicks to defeat Augsburg.

Meanwhile, at the same time as the men’s team was defeating Augsburg, Carleton’s football team was finishing up a 41-28 victory over Concordia in the frozen tundra of Moorhead, setting up a crucial matchup against St. John’s on Saturday in what essentially is a winner-take-all MIAC Championship game, a position the Knights have not been in since 1992.

Preisdent Robert Oden issued a “Blue-Out” in support of the soccer and football teams through an all-campus e-mail, urging fans to wear maize and blue and to turn out in support of their peers.

Yesterday, the women’s soccer team beat St. Scholastica 2-0 in their first-ever NCAA tournament game, advancing to Seattle to play the University of Puget Sound. On Sunday, the men’s team will face the University of Wisconsin-Platville.
