Football team aids flood victims in pre-season

<r much of the Midwest, August was a month of devastating floods and torrential rains. Rushford, Minnesota, a farming community of about 1800 and the home of senior linebacker James Colbenson, was one of the areas hit hardest by the flooding. A third of the town was either destroyed or severely damaged leaving hundreds of residents with no possessions and a future full of uncertainty.

For the Knights football team, the plight of Rushford offered an amazing opportunity for the players and coaches to give back to the community and grow as individuals and a team in the process. A busload of around 70 players, coaches and trainers headed down to Rushford, about 90 minutes from Northfield in order to help out residents and play a small part in the immeasurable effort to rebuild the community.

Congressman John Kline honored the Carleton College football team with Congressional Certificates of Special Recognition at the “Star of the North” ceremony at the Lakeville Area Arts Center in April.
