<ir="ltr" id="docs-internal-guid-1df19e4a-6bf9-4e66-5fa3-5a1d2166b078">The Carleton College Men’s Tennis team had lots to celebrate on Tuesday as they received a team-record eight All-MIAC awards, five for all-Conference performances in singles and three more for doubles. Leading the way for the Knights were senior Kevin Hurley (Novi, Mich/Univ. of Detroit Jesuit), junior Jordon O’Kelly (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), and first-year Leo Vithoontien (Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School). That trio garnered membership on both the All-MIAC singles and All-MIAC doubles teams.
The eight all-Conference awards breaks the previous program record of seven established during the 2017 campaign.
This is the first time that Hurley earned All-MIAC recognition in singles to go along with his second consecutive all-conference award for doubles. He went 12-2 in singles—with a 7-0 mark in MIAC action—and closed the season with 11 consecutive victories. Hurley also amassed a team-high 20 doubles wins on the year, seven of those coming in conference play.
O’Kelly picked up right where he left off last season… and the season before that, as he was named to the All-MIAC singles team for the third straight season. He also picked up his first All-MIAC doubles award. O’Kelly finished the season at 8-4 overall and 13-2 overall in singles and doubles play, respectively.
Vithoontien boasted a 19-1 singles record as a rookie, with his lone loss coming to the nation’s top-ranked player at the time. The 19 victories were tied for the Knights’ third-highest over the last 12 seasons. Along with this, he held a 17-3 doubles record while playing alongside six different partners during the season.
Along with those three Knights, Aaron Goodman (Jr./Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) and Andrew Qi (Jr./Auckland, New Zealand/Saint Kentigern) were also named to the All-MIAC singles team.
Goodman finished second on team in singles wins with an overall record of 17-5 and a record of 7-1 in conference play. This was his second straight All-MIAC singles award to go along with his previous pair of all-conference honors for doubles.
Qi notched his second all-conference award over the last three seasons. He went 14-6 in 2018, the fourth-highest win total on the Knights.
As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the conference also announced the 12th annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for tennis. Hurley was selected by his coaches and teammates for this award, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
