Swimmers dominate triangular meet

<nd women’s swimming teams both competed at a triangular meet versus Saint Mary’s and Luther last weekend.

For the women, Kale Zicafoose ’11 won two individual events and started the victorious 200 medley relay as Carleton cruised to the top spot.

The Knights scored 1325 points to pull away from Luther (751) and Saint Mary’s (308).

Zicafoose teamed with Kate Alexander ’10; Kaarin Taylor ’09 and Becky Alexander ’09 for the relay win. She later added top honors in both the 100 and 200 backstroke.

Alexander grabbed the top spot in the 200 breaststroke, 400 IM and the 200 butterfly. Her younger sister, Maggie Alexander ’12, took top honors in the 1000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, while the eldest of the sisters, Becky Alexander, was second in the 100 and 200 freestyle races.

Mia Zutz ’10 and Jennie Miller ’09 were the first two to the wall in the 100 breaststroke.

Irene Dennison ’10 placed second in both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions.

For the men, Ted Marschall ’09 won three individual events and swam in the 200 medley relay at the triangular meet. The Knights finished second to Luther with 888 team points.

Marschall was first to the wall in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley. This was his first 400 IM race of the season.

Andrew Mering ’11 prevailed in the 200 backstroke for Carleton’s other swimming victory.

The Knights swept the top spots in the diving contests. Eric Brenner ’11 won the 3-meter competition and finished second to teammate John Knapp ’09on the 1-meter board.

Carleton was second in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Both men and women’s swimming teams will compete at St.Bens/St. John this Saturday at noon.
