<s a split week for the Carleton Softball team, as they swept the University of Wisconsin-Stout before falling to the Hamline Pipers, 10-4, 11-9.
The Knights redeemed themselves in Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Wisconsin Blue Devils, scoring three runs in the first inning of each game. In particular, Chelsea Yost ’13 pitched five innings in the opening win, evening her record at 2-2. Throughout the day, Yost collected four hits, three runs, and one RBI.
Jenny Ramey ’14 led off the bottom of the first, hitting a triple and scoring a few minutes later on a bunt by Kelsey Parsons ’13. Later in the inning, Kaitlin Bagley ’14 brought Micaela LaRose ‘15 home, with Claire Willeck ’15 bringing home another runner with a solid single.
Although UW-Stout attempted to get on the board, they only managed to score two runs before Carleton scored four more successive runs. LaRose also came on as the relief pitcher, and struck out all six batters that she faced.
In the second game, Carleton scored early once again, with consecutive singles by LaRose, Yost, Bagley, Willeck, and Brooke McManigal ’14 giving Carleton a 3-0 lead. Later on, the Knights added three more runs in the sixth inning. Throughout the two games, Willeck collected three hits and two RBI. She also pitched the winning second game, allowing only five hits over four innings.
Unfortunately for the Knights, their winning streak did not extend to Wednesday’ doubleheader against Hamline, as the Knights fell, 10-4 and 11-9. Although the Knights’ pitchers struggled to contain the Hamline hitters, one of the few bright spots for Carleton was Yost’s third home run of the season, which occurred in the fourth inning of the first game. Ramey also went four-for-six with three walks and three runs scored, while Bagley hit a team-best five hits, while driving in three runs. However, none of their efforts were enough to defeat Hamline, who scored 21 runs throughout the two games.
The Knights will be at St. Olaf College this Saturday, April 28, at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
