<st of us were away from Carleton over the summer, the campus was busy preparing the Weitz Center. Additionally, the campus was also occupied with many projects to make Carleton more sustainable. Here is a quick summary of what happened this summer:
Expanded bike parking – Bike parking by the Libe was expanded to accommodate more bikes.
Watson windows – More energy efficient windows that are better insulated and have fewer air leaks were installed.
Furniture donation – Over 300 pieces of furniture from the town houses, Goodhue, and Sayles were diverted from the landfill and donated to the Salvation Army and a local non-profit.
Trayless LDC – The LDC went completely trayless after the trial of “Trayless Tuesdays” found a 20% reduction in food waste.
Semi-permeable Paving – The paving was installed around Weitz and the bike parking by the Libe.
Wind turbine #2 – Cables connecting the new wind turbine to the campus grid were laid and the foundation was constructed.
Organic farm – 3 students worked on the student farm over the summer growing produce for the dining halls.
