ast Saturday over 80 participants converged on the Great Hall for the Debating for Democracy leadership workshop. Among the participants were students from Carleton, St. Olaf, Macalester, Northfield and Faribault High Schools, as well as members of the local community.  In the morning attendees discussed the role of shared values and personal stories in activism. The afternoon focused on using these ideals to mobilize support for social action and political change. Mandara Meyers of the Center for Progressive Leadership led the workshop, although a focus on participation and interaction allowed student leaders from different campuses and backgrounds to network and share ideas. Debating for Democracy is a program run by Project Pericles, a consortium of 29 colleges and universities committed to producing student leaders. Carleton’s trustees recently accepted the invitation to join this prestigious group.
