<e the devastating floods in early October caused heavy damage to the Stadium, East Gym, and other campus buildings and student houses, Carleton’s administration has made substantial progress on repairing the damage done.
“The equipment room in the gym has been cleaned, and the wiring and motors have been repaired,” said Fred Rogers, the College’s vice-president and treasurer. “It should be ready before the end of the month.”
The stadium track, which suffered the most damage, will be replaced in the spring, but the dirt on West Field has been cleared and the field itself has been re-seeded. Off campus, two of the four student-occupied houses were reopened, while two more will likely be closed through winter term.
Overall, Rogers says, the flood repair has been quite successful, and the estimate of its total cost has dropped from $5.5 million to $4.5 million.
