Career Corner

< you’re a newly minted freshman or a veteran senior, you’re here at Carleton to learn. But let’s be honest. That Carleton bubble we all know and love? It can be a bit tough to break through some times. Your liberal arts education is something you’ll take with you outside the bubble, and the Career Center wants to help you get there before school’s out. Life has a lot to teach you and we want you have a head start. Every week we’ll be presenting you with news and opportunities that you can use to help you learn more about a given profession, make connections with alumni and employers, or start your job search.

The term has just started, but it’s never too early to start thinking about what you’ll be doing during winter break. Yeah, you could get your old job at McDonalds, and you’re right, Law and Order won’t watch itself. Or, you could take a trip to L.A., the Bay Area or Atlanta, and meet with professionals in careers you’re interested in. The Carleton Scholars programs take place in early December. Over the span of several days, you’ll not only be learning from alumni and professionals, you’ll also be in the workplace, seeing these industries from the ground level.

Three scholars programs are set for this winter break. If you’re interested in Film, Television or Media, the LA Scholars trip is right for you. The Clean Tech trip to the Bay Area will be exploring where green meets machine. Finally, you’ll also be able to head to Atlanta to take a closer look at Public Health and Medicine. Applications are due October 16th on the Tunnel. If you have questions about program details, how to apply, or anything else, feel free to contact the Career Center by phone, e-mail, or just stop by!

The Career Center is changing, and we want you to be a part of it. You shouldn’t have to worry about just getting a job, you should be learning about where you can go and what you can do, so that you won’t have to worry when you get there. Stay tuned for more, and stop by Friday afternoons for Cheesy Fridays!
