Climate Change: A Note from an Alumna

<uary 17  I was in Washington D.C. with 50,000 others trying to draw attention to climate change. As an alumna, I was surprised to learn that Carleton College is not listed as one of the 200 colleges where students are petitioning for divestment from Big Oil, Gas and Coal. See www.gofossilfree.org. I like to believe that Carleton students are as concerned as I am about the pending crisis of climate change.

Already 2012 was the hottest month in recorded US history, and 64% of the US experienced moderate to severe drought. If we don’t act quickly, we shall endure catastrophic changes worldwide. One means for change is to convince Carleton to divest from fossil fuels. Divestment ended apartheid, and climate change is just as important as it affects everyone, especially future generations.
