<rleton Knights suffered a tough four set loss against Augsburg on Wednesday night at West Gym. With the 3-1 loss, the women’s team dropped to 13-8 overall, and 3-4 in MIAC play.
The Auggies held a strong grip on the match from the first set, building a commanding 13-2 lead halfway through the first set and eventually winning the game, 25-17. Although Carleton briefly held a 23-22 lead during the second match, the Augsburg women grabbed the last three points to win the match, 25-23, and lead the match two games to one.
The Knights got down to business in the third set, overcoming a three-point deficit to win with a score of 25-21. Unfortunately, the women’s squad was unable to ride their momentum, losing 25-14 in the fourth and final set after Augsburg made a strong 7-1 run.
Despite the loss, the Knights did see some strong individual performances throughout the night. Notably, Jessa Youso ’13 led not only the Knights, but also the entire match with 12 kills throughout the night. Alicia Flatt ’15 added 30 assists and 13 digs, while Sarah Nielsen ’13 had a team-best 5 blocks, and was second behind Youso with 9 kills. Micha Sater had 11 kills and Tabby Roh 10 to lead the Auggie attack.
The Knights also had strong defensive showing, posting an 0.20 attack percentage throughout the match. Erin Anderson in particular finished the match with 21 of the Knights’ 72 digs.
The Knights will hit the road again for the majority of the remaining season. The Knights had a week to prepare before their next road match against the College of St. Benedict this past Wednesday evening (too late for this issue). In addition, this weekend, they will travel to face faraway Concordia College on Saturday.
