<ke of a 2010 season that saw the Carleton soccer teams remain near the top of the MIAC, the accolades have been arriving in droves recently.
For the women’s team, which won the MIAC regular season title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Leigh-Anne Borkowski ’11 has become one highly decorated defender, earning All-American honors from both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and D3soccer.com. She received first team distinction from the former and a second team spot from the latter. The senior anchored the outside of a Knights defense which allowed only 17 goals all season while also showcasing a flair for the dramatic, notching five goals and two assists.
Two Knights also received distinction for the performances in the classroom in addition their success on the field. Star midfielder Abby Wills ’12 earned spots on the NSCAA’s Scholar All-American second team as well as the Scholar All-North Region first team while Lily Vanderstaay ’12 was a Scholar All-North Region second team pick.
Members of Carleton’s men’s team were also recognized for both their athletic and academic efforts. Ryan Cammarota ’12 earned a spot on the NSCAA All-North Region second team while Wes Elfman ’11 and Tim Wills ’12 received third team distinction. Tim Wills was also named to the Academic All-Region squad. Back in November, goalkeeper Pete Semmer ’11 was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team.
The future continues to look strong for Carleton soccer, as both programs will return many of their key stars for the Fall 2011 season.
