<rds Joh Farmer (Jr./Roseville, Minn./Roseville) and Quinn Johnson (Jr./Roseville, Minn./Roseville) were among the five Knights that finished in double figures as the Carleton College men’s basketball team pulled away from visiting Gustavus Adolphus College, 81-63.
Carleton (11-8, 9-5 MIAC) never trailed and led 40-35 at the break. The Knights opened the second half on an 18-8 run and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. Carleton shot 57 percent in the second half and limited the Gusties (10-10, 8-7 MIAC) to just 37 percent shooting over the same span.
“It was a nice team win for our guys tonight against a quality Gustavus team,” said Carleton head coach Guy Kalland. “We shot the ball well in both halves and settled in defensively in the second half.”
Farmer provided an early offensive spark, knocking down two 3-pointers, and finished with 10 points overall and a career high-tying six assists. Johnson provided another scoring option in the second half, scoring 8 of his 10 points after intermission and limiting Gustavus’ leading scorer this season, Riley Sharbono, to only five points on the evening.
Kevin Grow (Sr./Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) posted his 14th double-double of the season and his 16th career game with at least 20 points as he had game highs of 21 points and 15 rebounds. Kent Hanson (So./St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) added 15 points, while Ryan Casperson (Sr./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) chipped in 12 points off the bench.
Spencer Tolleson and Kelsey Thomas paced Gustavus with 15 points apiece.
Carleton climbed to fifth in the MIAC standings with tonight’s triumph and will host Macalester College at on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m. A live video broadcast and live stats will be available via Knights Online.
