<rleton College men’s track and field team picked up two event titles on day two of the MIAC Championships, including a school-record performance by Adrian Carpenter ‘14 in winning the 110-meter hurdles. Marcus Huderle ‘14 added top honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. As a team, the Knights finished sixth.
Carpenter pulled away from the field and reached the finish line at 14.96, eclipsing the standard set by Ty Martin ’11 last spring at an even-15.00. Carpenter later added All-MIAC Honorable Mention with a fifth-place result in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 55.31, 3.91 seconds faster than his previous fastest time.
Huderle’s steeplechase triumph came in a personal-best time of 9:11.16, good for a 15-second victory and the third fastest time in Carleton history. Isaac Schrantz ‘15 finished in third place in the 400-meter dash to earn All-MIAC honors. Brian Spisiak ‘13 added to the Knights’ point total with a seventh-place finish in the event as he also PR’d at 9:35.42.
Noah Laack-Veeder ‘15 picked up All-MIAC distinction as he finished second in the 800-meter run at 1:52.08. Mike Hutton of St. Thomas—who not only holds the No. 2 time in the nation from earlier this season, but also won the 800-meter national title at the NCAA indoor Championships—reached the line at 1:51.27.
In the 4×100-meter relay, Carleton’s entry of James Morrissey ‘12, Garo Anguiano-Sainz ‘15, Jordan Butler ‘13, and Jordan Washam ‘14 finished seventh with a season-best time of 43.84, the fastest by a Knight quartet since 2008.
The Knights closed the meet with an All-MIAC Honorable Mention showing in the 4 x 400-meter relay. Carleton reached the line fourth at 3:20.19, its fastest performance since the 2009 conference meet.
University of St. Thomas won its 30th MIAC team title and 25th over the last three decades. The Tommies accumulated 187 points, followed by Hamline (153), Gustavus (118), Saint John’s (101), Bethel (86) and Carleton (71).
Select members of the Carleton squad will compete at the NCAA Qualifier hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Thursday, May 17. The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 24-26 in Claremont, Calif.
