<old temperatures didn’t affect Carleton thrower Alex Polk ‘15 Saturday in his home stadium at the Carleton Relays. The Knights’ sophomore turned in a terrific performance in the javelin, finishing second overall and first among MIAC and Division III competitors. In the process, he recorded a new personal best and improved to third in the conference in 2013. For his performance, Polk was named the MIAC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week.
Polk’s runner-up throw traveled a distance of 48.89 meters, or 160 feet, 4 inches. He finished behind a Division II entrant and nearly six full feet ahead of the next MIAC and Division III competitor. In the process, Polk recorded a new career-best distance, and he moved up to third on the MIAC Outdoor performance list.
The Knights and Polk hope to generate continue their success throughout the outdoor season, with three meets on the schedule prior to the 2013 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in mid-May. But first, Carleton travels to the Macalester College Twilight Meet on Thursday, April 25.
