<rah Lincoln ’09 posted her 11th career double-double in a 67-55 Knights (5-7, 4-5 MIAC) win over the Augsburg Auggies (2-10, 0-9 MIAC) on Wednesday. Lincoln tallied a season-best 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Carleton jumped out to a 17-4 lead capped off by a Sarah Lincoln layup, a score that forced the Auggies to call their first time out. After taking a 36-24 lead into halftime, the Knights came out firing in the second half, starting the half with a 12-0 run. From there, Coach Tammy Metcalf’s team never looked back and secured a 67-55 victory.
In addition to Lincoln’s great performance, Annie Eckhoff ’10 provided a tremendous spark off the bench with 10 points, four rebounds, and two blocks. With those two blocks, Eckhoff has denied 11 shots in 12 games. Eckhoff had eight blocks in her previous 27 games.
In a patented overall performance, senior Annie Isler had seven points, seven rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Megan Mileusnic ’10 also turned in an impressive performance, finishing with eight points, six rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
The story of the game was free throw shooting. The Knights were 17-for-20 from the charity stripe, and they made 13 of their first 14 free throws. Augsburg, on the other hand, shot a dismal 33.3 percent from the free throw line. In addition, the Knights hit the boards hard all game, out rebounding the Auggies 41 to 31.
This victory over Augsburg was a source of redemption for the Knights after a tough loss to the University of St. Thomas last Saturday. The Knights lost to the Tommies 67-61 despite a 21-point game from senior Hannah Oken-Berg and a four-point halftime lead.
Up next, Carleton will face a revamped Macalester team (8-4, 6-3 MIAC) on Saturday at Macalester. That game will start at 1:00 p.m. Knights fans can follow the action on KDHL 920AM or on Knights Online.
