< Engagement Series starts Monday, February 1st! The Civic Engagement Series (CES) is an annual, month-long collection of events designed to get the Carleton community interested, informed, and involved in an important issue in our society. Throughout the month of February we will be hosting a series of different events around the topic of Food. Through the CES we hope to get Carleton thinking about Food from all different angles, from nutrition, to the organic movement, to poverty. From fun, to informative, to service-oriented, there will be activities for everyone! Here is a small sample of some of the fantastic events coming up this February:
– Feb. 8 Midtown Global Market Fieldtrip – Join the ACT Center on a field trip to Midtown Global Market in St. Paul. This internationally themed market has restaurants from around the world. Students will be given a guided tour of the facility, talk with the director, and then get to eat all the yummy foods!!
–Feb. 19 Direct Service Opportunity – Come volunteer with other Carleton students to make, serve, and eat meals with low-income families. A great way to get involved in the local community! More details to come!
–Feb. 23 “Who Is Northfield?” Panel – Come to a catered panel/lunch in the Great Hall! The panelists are all Northfield area residents who are working in areas concerning food. From the director of the Food Shelf to a speaker from Bon Appétit and more, come find out more about what people in Northfield have to say about food.
–Every Tuesday in Feburary Film Discussion – Come to the Athenaeum at 5:30 to watch a short film on a different issue concerning food. Dinner and lively discussion included!
These are just a few of the many events we have planned for February. Keep an eye out for posters with more information and feel free to drop by the ACT Center to find out more. We hope to see you at any or all of these events! Get ready and excited!
