<te Weekly Update for the Meeting held 11/03/2008
CSA exists to represent you!
Here’s some of the questions we asked this week!
What is the Integroup Relations (IGR) Pilot?
• IGR is a proposed pilot for a two-credit student-taught course that would address issues of power and privilege.
• The program would be modeled on the University of Michigan program.
• Should the program be mandatory for all students? Should it be taken for credit? The pilot would seek to answer these questions.
• The pilot may be implemented as soon as next year.
• CSA resolved that it supported the pilot and that the class should be mandatory for all students.

What is “accreditation”?
• Carleton is currently going through an accreditation process, meaning that it is renewing its legal certification to be a college.
• Carleton is using the process as an opportunity for self-assessment.
• There will be a report full of statistics about the workings of Carleton.
• There will also be a group of external reviewers coming to campus to access the college.
• See the video about the mission here https://apps.carleton.edu/about/mission/
What if CSA gave rebates to students who could not afford the Student Activity Fee?
• Senate continued discussing the possibility of rebates or decreased fees for students based on their financial backgrounds.
• We discussed the possibility of creating a fund to which students could apply for rebates.
• It was suggested that CSA raise the current Student Activity Fee by $20 in order to create such a fee.
• It remains unclear exactly how this would affect the students. Half of the student body is not on financial aid.
