<, a renovation of former Northfield middle school building, will shift much of Carleton’s academic and extracurricular activity closer to the Northfield community. For this reason, the College is preparing an exhibit on civic engagement to open with the new building this coming fall.
The Frames of Engagement photo contest will highlight the way Carleton students interact with and view the wider community. Students are invited to submit photos that celebrate the learning that takes place outside of campus, and the connections Carleton shares with the local and global community.
Khant Khant Kyaw ’11, who works for the Academic Civic Engagement (ACE) Office, which is sponsoring the event, says that the point of the exhibit is to highlight student creativity, and to “push the boundaries of how we think about learning.” She emphasizes that these photos could arise from many different events, such as study abroad experiences, ACT programs, ACE courses, student projects, or simple day-to-day observation.
The fall photo exhibit will also feature submissions from community members around southern Minnesota, demonstrating the other perspective on the relationship between campus and community.
Carleton students can submit to the contest until May 15th through the online form at go.carleton.edu/ace. Kyaw will be holding office hours on Friday between 1:00-3:00 PM as well as Sunday from 8:00-10:00 PM at the ACE office on the second floor of the library to discuss questions and submissions.
